Tips about Cheap Travel in the UK

Any tips and websites for cheap travel?

Now that you are in the UK, do not miss the opportunity to travel as much as you can in the country and out of it; even the smallest English town has a cathedral with an interesting story! It is true that fares are not cheap in England, but here you will find some tips and useful websites for cheap travel.
Journey Planners
Use TransportDirect to plan your journey. If you travel in London, use Transport For London; there you can find anything from timetables, tickets and travelcards to a journey planner. If you live in London or are visiting for a few days, it is really worth buying an Oyster card, which you can at all means of transport in London; it will save you lots of money and only costs £5.

By Train

You can book tickets at www.nationalrail.co.uk. Train tickets are expensive but there is a great train network in the UK that can take you literally anywhere you want. If you are under 26 you are entitled to a 16-25 railcard. It costs £28, is valid for a year (after that you can renew it) and gives you 30% discount in any train fare. If you do not qualify for the 16-25 railcard, have a look at the National Railcards website about other railcards that may apply to you.

By Bus and Car

Buses are slower than trains (they usually take double the time) but they are usually cheaper. Look at NationalExpress for bus tickets. Don't miss Megabus if you want to really save money. If you book early there, you can get tickets to anywhere for as little as £1.
If you are looking for a cheap way to drive in and around England Sixt car hire is your choice! You can also get coupons to save you some money when using Sixt rent a car.

Travel in Europe
